Jerry x Germany x Taiwan

So today I carried out my promise and went to Eichstätt stadt to visit Minas with Ines. We took the train to go there but I got off the wrong station, by the time when we finally arrived there, it was already 2:30 pm. Bad timing because all the restaurants were having a break time, we couldn’t go to the restaurant Minas wanted to take us to but still tried the local food in a nice restaurant. She also invited her Chinese friend—Vincent to be the tour guide, he was very funny but just too talkative and self-confident. Schmal Where Jesus was born! Today is the first day of Nuremberg Christmas market, even though we went there one hour before the opening ceremony, we still couldn’t find a good place to see what’s going on. I have two presentations this week so I didn’t go far for a few days, I even dropped my German class. But today Baris took Poy, Jeen, Jiny and I out to a Turkish restaurant for dinner. He knew a very spicy kebap store and it was indeed very spicy!! Even people from the spicy countries said they couldn’t stand that. And it’s the same price as others but bigger. It was so nice of him taking us to that restaurant. After, he took me and Jiny to try Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, awesome ice cream! Yet it’s evil because people usually ate too much of it while watching TV.

I kind of got sick on Thursday but I still went to cinema to watch Hunger Games 3 with my German friends and internationals. The subtitles were in German and my listening sucks, so I almost fell asleep plus I felt dizzy that I shouldn’t have come.. after that I went back dorm right away because I knew something bad is happening on me, I kept drinking water and going to toilet and taking shit several times. It was a hard night for me. I still went to an all-you-can-eat restaurant with my friends the next day, I must go there since I made the reservation. I got worse after going back, the only way to get better was drinking water and sleeping more. So today although I still suffered from the stomachache, I was not that exhausted as I was last night. And tonight will be the first time to meet my German family, they invited me to play bowling,  it was a lot of fun, the mother- Donatella, father- Karl, son- Emanuel and his girlfriend- Anika, and his friend-Max, only his brother- ...

Today is another international day but not for us, it is for students who are interested in doing internship in a foreign country. So today some countries sent their professors to our school and had a speech. I listened to the speeches of the professors from Thailand and Finland. After that I had a presentation in the class, the professor even told them to stay until we finished our presentation about Staedtler, making me feel more nervous about that. But still, I nailed it and received a lot of comments, mostly positive. I didn’t have class in the afternoon so I went to Patrick’s dorm in St.peter to discuss about our project with Kathi and Anabel. We had spaghetti as our lunch, I enjoyed this moment so much! Nuernberg Store Already in Xmas mood! I don’t have class today, went to school library and studied with Mini. About 4.30 I went to city center to look for Staedtler stationeries, I bought some pencils as well as a pencil sharpener. Staedtler  At night, I went to my German buddy, Stephan’s house party, I also asked Iker and Carlo to go with, just one hour before I head down there, Jonas called me and asked my plan for the night, so I also brought him to the house party. He pretended to be a real Chinese guy and spoke English with German. There were about 50-60 people stuck in two floors. We 4 people felt quite awkward at that moment when we came in. Everyone was looking at us and didn’t try to talk to us.. well, anyway they were German, English is very good but after speaking English for a few minutes with us, I could obvious see that they were tired of it. Today I had an additional lecture to participate, which was mandatory. So after my German course I went to library to study but mostly wanted to take a nap. I met Jonas again, and asked him some German questions, he helped Ivy and I understand the grammar. Although he is Chinese but he can only speak a little Chinese, in return, I taught him some Chinese which he wanted to learn. And he told me there was going to be an instrumental performance going on at 7, but first I had to go to the lecture, unfortunately that was all in German, I could understand nothing and many students attended. I played gobang(five-in-a-row) with Kyle to kill the time. And we went to the “performance” but actually it was just a private studio.  I felt awkward because I did not play any of instruments. Kyle seemed to have a good time with them, he played their guitar. I just went back alone.  

Not special in this week because of the coming presentations. Well, at least life is not that lame, I went to the Nuernberg arena and went ice skating with some Europeans and Kyle, the American. I was the only Asian. We went outside of city it is like a suburb, only few people live here. Last time I went ice skating was last year in Taipei, and it was my first time, I wasn’t afraid of falling down, but this time my mind changed. I almost forgot the feeling of last time, I could only rest and move very carefully. They were very good at it maybe it’s their national sport, especially those from Northern Europe. They saw me stumbling, limping and thoughtfully helped me to move on. I felt so warm!! And tonight there was a disco party, the lights were doomed, quite club style! by the way, Europeans don’t take pictures that much as we do, so only took few pictures here.

After my difficult German A2, I took bus 36 to watch a circus, that’s exact the place when I went to the volksfest. I didn’t have dinner or should say I couldn’t find any food stores around here. Thankfully they sold sausages inside the tent. It was my first time watching a circus!! So I was quite excited about that. The price was 19 € each. When we went inside and they started their performance, I saw quite a lot of Asian faces, they looked younger than me.  Later on, they showed us some animals. The animals were trained well, but to be frank, I didn’t enjoy that much when animals performed, of course they wowed me they did something incredible, I just couldn’t help thinking about how hard they had been before they could perform on the stage, so did human beings. Some shows were really very exciting, breath-taking. The show lasted for 2 hour then we went back very gladly.  Hsiu Yi & Lion man & Nijo Sunny

Tonight my good German friend, Anabel, invited me to her house party. I think I was the first one who came there, they hadn’t started preparing the dinner yet. We had Mexican food, Burrito, as our dinner. It was super! I felt so lucky to know these German people. More and more German came to her house after we finished the dinner, I felt like I was the only foreigner to them! I wouldn’t have the chance to speak Mandarin today.. but later on, I saw Patrick and he brought his flat mate as well, so I saw Toby the Chinese guy and finally I spoke some Chinese today. Kathi was also there from the beginning, and I also tried the “warm wine”, it was very special!
