20150704-05 Zephyr Foundation Youth Leadership Camp
Going into the last stage of this camp, I am happy and also nervous to go to 劍潭青年活動中心 to participate in the camp. From the former stage, 80 people gathering in a conference room for one day to where I am now is far from easy, but I made it anyways. First, I was told that our meeting point is the MRT station, so I went there and met some new friends whom I didn't talk with previously. I took out my name cards and prepared to exchange it with them. This helped me a lot, and people seemed to leave a good impression on me due to this. Then we were at where we were supposed to stay over night and they split us into 6 groups. My teammates were all from different background, Sonny is from the diplomatic dept, Nancy is from the Law dept, Entwine is from the Medical dept, and the two other girls, Grace and Yin are from Language dept. We are a team with such special characters and thoughts. The speakers invited by Zephyr Foundation are all very well-known in their field. I like Joey (鍾子偉) and Eric (姚仁祿) the most. Their speeches are so inspirational and insightful. That's why everyone can't stop asking them for some advice in life.
The first night, we had a so-called International Night, but we weren't told anything of it, we just wore suits and proceeded to the banquet. The CEO of the foundation, Tony, is the guy who set up the whole event, and invited some of his int'l friends to have dinner with us, so we had to speak int'l language, a.k.a. English. I had a great time chatting with new friends from outside Taiwan and I saw some people were just talking to the locals, they missed out a lot. I felt I were back to Germany again cuz I'm so used to this kind of occasions already.
After the dinner, we were asked to write an essay just right on the dinning table!! that's a bit too inhumane. And afterwards all the groups went back to their rooms to discuss about their presentation for the next day, our group was no exception. The topic of our presentation is, How do you see the impact of One Belt One Road and AIIB and in which way do you think it will be going in the future? Well, I gotta say it's a tough one, unlike the other 2 topics. But Sonny is some kind like an expert to it, so he was very confident and told us don't worry. He quickly gave us an overview to make sure that we are on the same page. Then we drafted our lines for the presentation, I made the presentation by using Prezi, which I think would be a plus to the judges, and it turned out excellent from the point of the judges. We stayed up the whole night preparing our presentation, I didn't have so much time to prepare my lines since I am the one in charge of making the presentation. But I did enjoy the moment when we were discussing, I liked the atmosphere. And the second day is the show time, we killed it. We made two poems to describe the current situation and how we see it in the future. I believe the judges and the students were stunned by that, haha. In the end, we got the BEST TEAM prize and Nancy got the MOST POPULAR ONE and Sonny and I got the biggest prize, which is to be able to go abroad with Tony to attend an int'l meeting. Hmm, looking back to all of these, I think the saying is right, Rome isn't built in one day.
It's all the things no matter good or bad make me who I am today, I'm willing to take whatever challenge that comes to me in the future.
