I met Sandra, a German girl whom I met when I was in a bar, and took
her to the night market in my hometown, it’s called “逢甲 (Feng Jia) 夜市”. She came to Taiwan
and now is teaching German culture in an elementary school. It’s interesting
because she teaches in English and the teacher will translate to Chinese to the
10-year-old students. It’s just her first week in Taichung, she still has five
weeks to go. Before I went out to catch her, her teacher from school called me
and asked who I am, where do I study, where do I live, etc. I felt like the
woman was checking on me, wanted to know if I would do something bad to her. I
didn’t feel very good at the moment but I got through that somehow since she is
a girl and, a foreign girl who is not supposed to let her host family be
worried about her. Think on the other side, they had the responsibility to
protect her, make sure she is all fine during the days in Taiwan. I have to say
the Taiwanese people did a very good job. When I met her, a wave of gladness
made me feel like I am back to Germany, it is amazing to see the people you met
in Germany in Taiwan. So I rode my scooter and took her to the night market, I
also found my senior high good friend, 阿淦, to show her
around. We tried egg roll, papaya milk, rice with sausage and the one she
wanted to try the most, oyster omelet.
I don’t know if she liked them all but
at least she didn’t dislike them. So me, it had also been a long time not
eating the food in the night market, although some shops were closed but new
shops kept amusing our stomach. We did talk a lot and shared our life, but I
was sorry that when I talked to my friend, I had to use Chinese, hanging her
alone there. Afterwards, I took her back to my home and introduced my family to
her. Even though my parents didn’t talk that much, they still were listening to
our conversation. Since I had made a promise that I will take her back before
10pm. My dad gave us a ride and she went back safe and sound.
And my lovely family :)) |
